Since his debut for Australia in 2018, Marnus Labuschagne has had a stratospheric ascent in Test cricket. The 27-year-old has put in outstanding performances against every opponent he has faced in the different countries where he has played, propelling him to the upper echelons of Test cricket.
For the previous four years, the world’s top-ranked Test hitter has been one of the most powerful batters in the longest format of the game, racking up runs against world-class bowling units.
While Labuschagne is known for defeating great bowlers, he has struggled against Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s ace left-arm pacer. Shaheen has dismissed Labuschagne the most times of any bowler in the globe. Shaheen has dismissed him four times in four Tests, allowing 81 runs off 172 balls.
While Labuschagne has a lifetime Test average of 56.04, he only has a 20.25 average while facing Shaheen.
In the second innings of the current Test match between Pakistan and Australia at National Stadium Karachi, Labuschagne was removed by Shaheen. Australia is on track for a historic triumph, having set Pakistan a fourth-innings target of 506 runs.
