The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will meet in Berlin (Germany) this week, from June 14 to 17, 2022, to decide whether Pakistan will be removed from the grey list or will have its current position extended for another few months.
The Pakistani government is optimistic, and they anticipate a favorable conclusion from the plenary conference. “We have strong prospects for now,” a top Pakistani official said when called on Sunday. We believe we have made significant progress, which has been recognized by a number of members. The final decision, however, will be made at a summit in which a number of countries will comment on our progress. Let’s all hope for the best.”
When asked if the FATF would send a team to Pakistan to inspect the country’s performance before removing it from the grey list, the official said that yes, if the country cleared all points, there would be an onsite visit and then the country would be removed from the grey list.
