After years of strained relations under previous Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says the US and Pakistan must move beyond past disputes over Afghanistan and establish a fresh engagement.
Bhutto Zardari talked to The Associated Press in New York, where he was attending discussions on the global food crisis at the United Nations headquarters this week. He’s also met with prominent diplomats, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for a one-hour conversation.
The discussion with Blinken, according to Bhutto Zardari, was “extremely optimistic, very positive, and fruitful.”
He stated, “We feel Pakistan must continue to interact with the United States at all levels.” “This meeting was a crucial first step in the right direction.”
