The Kaghan Development Authority publicly prohibited guests from driving themselves to the Siri Paye section of the Shogran tourist resort on Tuesday.
“For their own safety, tourists are no longer allowed to drive on the Shogran-Siri Paye Road,” KDA environmental inspector Moazzam Khan told reporters on Tuesday.
The restriction was imposed after two brothers from Baluchistan were killed and their family members were injured in a car accident earlier this week.
The area around Siri Paye is more than 10,000 feet above sea level.
Tourists could not take their vehicles beyond the Shogran area, according to the official, but they could utilise local jeeps, which were capable of reaching Siri Paiy without difficulty and whose drivers were trained for such travels.
He also threatened to punish drivers who failed to follow SOPs or overcharged tourists.
Meanwhile, the district government has initiated a crackdown on commuters who are overcharged.
Commuters complained about overcharging, so Assistant Commissioner Marvi Malik punished drivers of over two dozen public transportation vehicles at the Badra Interchange.
