Shaheen, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chichawatni Saddar, has been suspended by the District Police Officer (DPO) of Sahiwal for making derogatory statements on Facebook about Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz.
The DPO has nominated Chichawatni Saddar Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) as an Inquiry Officer to probe the case and has directed for a report to be submitted within three weeks, taking action against the SHO who had tweeted his comments on Monday.
Under the Government Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rule 1973, SHO A. D. Shaheen was suspended from duty on Tuesday and ordered to report to Police Lines, Sahiwal, with immediate effect. The reasons for his suspension are listed as “inefficiency, reckless attitude, and negligence in the fulfilment of his duties” in the suspension order.
Local PML-N leaders also condemned SHO Shaheen’s remarks, expressing their displeasure with how an on-duty police officer could use derogatory language towards a political party’s leader.
It’s worth noting that Maryam Nawaz holds no governmental post, therefore the decision to suspend the officer over his remarks about the former Prime Minister’s daughter raises questions.
