According to a news release, UNDP Pakistan has named noted actor Mr. Fawad Khan as its National Goodwill Ambassador. Khan will now represent the United Nations Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals as a spokesperson.
The event took held in Islamabad, where Mr. Knut Ostby, UNDP Pakistan’s Resident Representative, and Mr. Khan signed a contract.
The film ‘Don’t Choose Extinction,’ a climate action campaign film, was then screened. The UNDP Headquarters released the film during COP26 to promote the phase-out of fossil fuels for a more sustainable and equitable future. Khan has done the voice-over for the film in Urdu in order to reach a wider audience and create awareness about the subject of climate change in Pakistan.
“We are ecstatic to have Fawad Khan on board as our Goodwill Ambassador. Climate change, as you are all aware, is one of the most significant and immediate threats we face. Mr. Knut Ostby, UNDP Pakistan’s Resident Representative, noted, “I appreciate that Fawad Khan’s first advocacy support stresses climate action as a spokesperson for Agenda 2030.”
Mr. Fawad Khan, speaking to a crowd of green ambassadors and social entrepreneurs, said, “I am thrilled to be recognized as the National Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP Pakistan.” “I am convinced that the Sustainable Development Goals provide a roadmap for peace and prosperity for both people and the earth. This is a fantastic chance for me to promote awareness of the Agenda 2030 and advocate for it.”
The session culminated with a discussion with the green ambassadors and start-ups about UNDP’s role in climate action in Pakistan, as well as how UNDP is amplifying the voices of young people in climate action decisions.
