In Pakistan, it is typical for the following generation to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers and work in the same fields. A family in Lahore, on the other hand, has turned hockey into a ‘family career,’ with generation after generation making a name for themselves in the sport. Hockey is in the blood for this family, which has produced 11 international hockey players.
In 1958, Fazal Manna was the first member of the family to wear the green jersey on the ice. Ghulam Ghaus, Azfar Yaqoob, Murtaza Yaqoob, Abdul Hanan Shahid, Mohammad Shahid, Sarwar Jamshed, Anwar Jamshed, Zahid Afzal, Mujahid Afzal, Mohammad Shahid, and Abdul Manan are among the family’s world hockey players.
They’ve competed in World Cups, Asia Cups, and the Olympics, among other international games.
