As the regional domestic system instituted by previous Prime Minister Imran Khan is poised to be phased out, the current government has opted to revive departmental cricket.
The government of Shahbaz Sharif has planned to reinstate the country’s departmental cricket system. Ehsan Mazari, the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Communication, stated that the departmental system of sports will be reinstated. The cricket departments will receive instructions soon on how to resurrect the previous domestic system.
Since the new regional system proved unable to accommodate the bulk of cricketers, players and administrators have been clamoring for the return of departmental cricket. In the densely populated country, limiting domestic cricket to six associations was deemed impracticable because it decreased employment chances not only for players but also for officials and managers.
In order to increase the quality of the domestic system, former cricketer and Prime Minister Imran Khan replaced departmental cricket with regional cricket. The cricketing community, on the other hand, was not enthusiastic.
