Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif resolved in principle on Monday to provide subsidies on five vital products for the needy during the next fiscal year, including wheat flour, sugar, ghee/edible oil, lentils, and rice.
The reported subsidy will be available at utility outlets around the country.
The news came after the Prime Minister presided over a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Miftah Ismail and Makhdoom Murtaza Mahmood, as well as relevant senior executives.
The Prime Minister also approved the expansion of Karachi’s utility shop network.
He stated that Karachi’s low number of utility stores was in no way acceptable and that a thorough strategy to increase the number should be provided within two weeks.
PM Shehbaz stated that the government was willing to bear any expenditure in order to provide maximum help to the underprivileged. The government’s top objective, he continued, was to provide help to the needy on basic necessities.
According to the Prime Minister, a comprehensive, integrated, transparent, and digital subsidy system should be developed, with priority assistance offered.
