The UAE cabinet said on Monday that the country would implement a type of unemployment insurance.
The latest reform is part of the UAE’s strategy to attract talent and investment in the face of rising regional competition.
According to the change, if insured workers are declared unemployed for a certain time, they would earn some money, according to UAE Prime Minister and Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, who is also the ruler of trade hub Dubai.
“The goal is to improve labor market competitiveness, provide a social safety net for workers, and create a stable working environment for all,” according to the statement.
The statement did not say if this applied equally to UAE citizens and non-citizen residents.
